Elopement Alerts for Memory Care and Skilled Nursing

A resident with dementia pushes open an exit door. Every staff phone knows in seconds.

Wandering is one of the most serious risks in memory care, and the hardest to catch. A resident who should not leave walks toward an exit the same way anyone else does. By the time a door alarm sounds, they are already through it, and the alarm tells the nearest person that something happened without telling them who or where.

LANgineers Elopement Alerts is a standalone system. A camera at each exit recognizes the residents you have enrolled as at risk, and our own sensor on the door knows when it is being opened. The alert fires only when both are true: an enrolled resident, and the door actually opening. Every staff phone gets it in seconds.

What it does

  • Recognizes enrolled residents at exits. You choose who is enrolled. Visitors, staff, and residents who are free to come and go are ignored.
  • Fires on the door, not on proximity. A resident walking past an exit, sitting near it, or looking out the window does not trigger anything. The alert requires the door to be pushed open by an enrolled resident. That is what keeps it from becoming a nuisance alarm staff learn to ignore.
  • Alerts staff phones in seconds. The push alert goes to every phone on shift, through our staff app, not just to whoever happens to be near the door.
  • Tells staff where, without telling anyone who. The alert carries an encrypted identifier for the room the resident came from, plus the exit and the time. Your staff recognize the identifier. Anyone else who sees the phone learns nothing.
  • Logs every event. Time, identifier, exit, who acknowledged, and when. An audit trail for insurance, regulators, and family conversations.

Standalone by design

The system does not connect to your door alarms, your locks, or any other vendor’s wander equipment, and we do not modify them. It runs on its own cameras, its own door sensors, its own network connection, and our staff app. Whatever else you have keeps doing what it does; this adds a layer of identification and reach on top, with no dependencies in either direction.

Privacy

No resident is named in any notification, by design and in adherence with California Title 22. No image is sent to staff phones. Recognition happens on the camera; what leaves it is an alert with an encrypted identifier. Enrollment is done by your staff, and only your staff hold the key to what the identifiers mean.

Honest scope

Facial recognition is a high-confidence identification tool, not a guarantee. The alert says an enrolled resident appears to have opened a specific exit. The trained staff member who responds makes the final call. We are not replacing human judgment. We are putting better information in their hands, faster.

Deployment

  • Site survey to first live alert: one to two weeks
  • Cost driver: number of monitored exits, not number of residents
  • Disruption to your building: minimal. A camera and a small door sensor at each monitored exit, on their own connection
  • Ongoing costs: staff app subscription per device, enrollment per resident
